Katie told me about Kickstarter. She is totally into it and has supported a few projects of her own. What a great idea!

[...] Two years ago, Globalscope Spain team leaders told us how they had finally crossed managed to cross the bridge from Mentality A: “I’m just a visitor in this country” to Mentality B: “I live here” by purchasing a toaster. Up until this point, Globalscopers had for the most part led Spartan existences in the interest of being good stewards of the financial support they had been given by donors and supporters in the States. This smallest, most specific of household devices symbolized, to the Spain team leaders who had bought it, the acceptance of the idea that it was okay to invest a little in yourself and make yourself at home in the interest of being a better, healthier campus minister.
How about including cinema....at least clips, to help
convey the message. The students may be familiar with
the movie and can generate discussion. Hard to come up
with something new each week in a foreign language to boot.

Keep going with the music stuff, Tyler! It will happen. Good musicians attract other good musicians (everyone wants to play with a good band). Pretty soon, you'll have one fantastic player come along and before you know it, the stage is packed and the house is rocking! You nailed it though, open-mics were huge for getting to know the local talent. The event themselves can get old; inevitable, the same people show up and play the same songs, but it's a great place to connect with the talent. Keep at it with those few chords! Necessity is the best teacher.
